Special effects, also SFX, are visual tricks or techniques, used to create an illusion that may be impractical or impossible in a live-action shot. Special effects include mechanical effects such as pyrotechnics, controlled combustion and explosions, creation of rain, wind or other weather conditions on a set, optical effects, which require the creation of objects and characters that do not exist in real life.
